Encryption is one-way and permanent, which is why it’s perfect for storing passwords. Hashing is reversible, so you can decrypt the hash to get the password during login.

Hashing and encryption are basically the same thing: both scramble data, and you can always undo both to get the original value back.

Hashing always gives the same result for the same password, so it’s mainly used so the app can “recognize” repeat passwords. Encryption adds random changes each time, so it’s used to hide passwords safely.

Hashing is one-way: you turn a password into a scrambled “fingerprint” you can compare later, but you can’t realistically turn it back into the original. Encryption is meant to be reversible if you have the right key.
