Data Fixtures: Love your Dummy Data

This course is in the planning stages

Data fixtures: that dummy data you load while developing to make your life easier. It may not seem too important, but the better (and more realistic) your dummy data, the faster you can build high-quality features!

  • Using Doctrine's data fixtures directly
  • Sprinkle a dash of Faker for great, random data

    So it's... coming soon-ish, but it's not close enough on the roadmap to have any dates yet :). Thanks for your patience!

    Hey jarnstad ,

    Ah, unfortunately, not yet... see our roadmap for upcoming screencasts here: . We're working on Doctrine tutorial, then probably will be ReactJs one, and only then we will switch to the Fixtures.

    I am not an expert so there might be different reasons why you are looking for new solutions rather than Alice but it is actually quite effortless to integrate Alice to Symfony 4. In bundles.php, `Nelmio\Alice\Bridge\Symfony\NelmioAliceBundle::class => ['all' => true],` and then in the LoadFixtures.php file:

    $fileLoader = $this->container->get('nelmio_alice.file_loader');
    $objectSet = $fileLoader->loadFile(__DIR__.'/fixtures.yaml')->getObjects();
    foreach($objectSet as $object) {

    I wrote this, because I am eager to learn if there is any other problems for overlooking Alice.

    I would love seeing Alice with Symfony 4. I am struggling through the Symfony 3 lessons using Symfony 4. Reason being is I continued to get errors from composer when trying to update things or load new things. It was cumbersome and in the end using Symfony 4 has gotten me through to the Alice tutorial section. I am completely stumped there though. I've read documentation from Alice 3, but it seems really incomplete or just not written for someone learning.

    I totally agree that that the result is complex. But once mastered, it is a really powerful tool !
    I asked in the first place because you guys are quite talented to explain complex things in an understandable way =)

    Haha, well.... I'm not sure yet. Right now... no. I love the effort that was put into the new HautelookAliceBundle... but the result is quite complex! I'm going to investigate some pure PHP solutions first, to see if we can make them as slick as Alice. So.... maybe :D. Either way, our old Alice fixtures is out of date - time for a refresher!

    Will Alice come to this party ?
